Afghanistan’s Trends

This year the Trafficking in Persons Report includes the trend chart for each country.  You can get an overview of the countries that improved and/or have a lower rating this year compared…The full report can be found at the U.S. Department of State website each year.

Regional Figures

Here is what people are saying about the regional figures in 2012.  I don’t see much of a difference.  Maybe you do.  Click on the link for the source….

1/3 of the 2.8 MM U.S. Kids in 48 Hours

Shocking and tragic news about our runaways.  I have really wanted to start a larger campaign that focuses on assessing the connections between where local missing children go and the global trafficking routes.  Click on the image for the source…

Global March: Worst Forms of Child Slavery (a Report)

If you take a look at the GlobalMarch.org report, you can review the worst forms of child slavery for every country.  Below is a small caption from Nepal’s report.  Just click on the image to get a better look.  There is a lot more information at the Global March website. Powerful documentation…

An overview of global prostitution busts

Here is a 2001 report produced by the Protection Project.  This would be more informative if it were interactive and updated regularly.  I am going to look for a map that gets updated each year.  If you read the Country Reports, you can find trafficking routes for a few regions.  I think there is a lot of other stuff on this site too…

Need a good book on child labor?

While frustrated over the fact that I can’t seem to pin a year to this map, I did find a great library on child labor: The NHF Art and Environment Libarary

The Fisek Institute appears to work closely with ILO in Turkey.  Some of the books in their library are English.  Also, you can view additional charts on child labor in fishing, child soldiers, child domestic servants, child labor in mining, child labor in agriculture, child labor in exploitative commercial agriculture, and child labor in construction.  Quite a bit of information.  Unfortunately, I am going to leave the rest of the research up to you…

In Real Numbers? Underage Prostitution

Below is a map of recent US underage prostitution arrests across 37 cities.  The map was provided by the Village Voice.  This group bumps the current estimates against the legal arrests.  While I am glad to see the current figures, I certainly find it revealing of our inability to protect the youth.  Don’t we need a more aggressive approach when it comes to getting the word out, providing legitimate resources, and allowing for the safety so that more youth will come forward?  How can we better identifiy with actual victims?  It is my humble opinion that the gap between the two figures is the data we should be focused on improving.
